This painting explores human connection and relationship dynamics. Throughout life, we become tethered to others, but each connection is unique. I was thinking a great deal about how we perceive relationship dynamics vs what actually exists and what we see when we shift perspective.

Is the figure restrained or secured by the arm and hand that holds it?

Does the figure reach their right hand to the tethering arm to hold on despite it stripping their flesh, or do they try to break the hold even though it causes them harm?

Why does the figure cover their face, a simple act of hiding, sadness of letting go, fear of being swept up into the abyss above if the hand releases the figure?

Maybe it’s all of these. Our relationships with others are endlessly influx and we take on different roles that come with different emotions at different stages of life and points in time. I
